Ocean Beach Entryway Clean Up is a Success!
Saturday, April 28, 2007
As part of the regional Rotarians at Work Day, the Point Loma Rotary Club joined with Ocean Beach Community Development Corporation (OBCDC) and local volunteers to remove weeds and debris from the Ocean Beach Entryway along the west side of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
More than two dozen volunteers worked from 8:30am to 12:30pm with a successful end result of more than 3 tons of weeds and debris removed.
Landscape clean-up & native plant preservation instruction was provided by local native plant expert Tim Fleming. Tim came out as a volunteer and gave a brief talk on the micro-regional geography and history as well as a field lesson on identifying native plants to preserve and plants to remove during the event.
Thanks Tim! You did a great job!
OBCDC coordinated the event, along with the Point Loma Rotary Club, in support of Ocean Beach Entryway improvements with the support of the City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department, assisting in maintenance work needed along Robb Field.
Thanks to Mark Nokes, Coordinator for Point Loma Rotary and all the Rotarian volunteers that helped make the event successful and fun.
Special Thanks to Tony George, owner of Point Loma Landscape, and to his volunteer crew for their hard work and assistance & technical support in collection and removal of more than 3 tons of debris!
Special Thanks, also, to Allied Waste Services for their donation, drop-off and pick-up of a 22 foot roll off bin taking away the removed weeds. |
